Reviewing Wins In Last Negotiation Round

As we go into 2025 we know we are going to face tough times from a government unsympathetic to unions. It is important that we stand together, increase the membership and press for increased involvement in education policy formation. As educators we know what is required and what works.

We also know that with united action we can create positive results for teachers, support staff and children. During this year, 2024, gains came into effect as a direct consequence of strong union action.

  • Improvement to sick leave entitlements.
  • The introduction of a $5,000 per annum cultural leadership allowance for teachers.
  • The introduction of a Pacific Bilingual Immersion Teaching Allowance.
  • Increased CRT to 25 hrs per term by 2025.
  • Relief teachers’ salary step increase.
  • Unit value increase to $4500 for primary school teachers.

These improvements come on top of wins already implemented – increases to pay, higher rates for Māori immersion teaching allowance, the payment of the costs of moving from provisional to full teaching certification and the abolishment of sick leave deductions for weekends.

The NZEI stands for a fairer public education system for all.
